TEC - Jessica Albrent
Research over the past 60 years in education reveals that diverse classrooms are more effective learning spaces for all learners. However, texts, assessments, and common pedagogies aim to best support the learning of “average” students, leaving high-performing and marginalized learners out of beneficial learning experiences. While practices such as differentiation are promising tools for supporting all students, teachers often struggle to implement them in large classrooms and when the curriculum is crowded. How do teachers in such situations support their diverse learners so that all are included and maximize learning opportunities? This session explores the principles, tools, and techniques of the Universal Design for Learning that help remove barriers to learning for all students, even in large classrooms. Participants in this session will collaborate to plan for more inclusive spaces, assessments, and teaching practices, identifying strategies they can immediately implement in their classrooms.

Dr. Jessica Albrent is an Assistant Professor, Lahore University of Management Sciences. She is an educator with over 15 years of experience in international schools in 6 countries. She has specialised skills in using data to support student learning, team building, and using design thinking to drive school improvement.
